Craig Bachman Kayaking Trip
Saturday, Nov 15th
on Quinby Creek in Huger, SC.
Anyone interested should plan on meeting at Ralph C. Hamer Landing at 10:30 am, which means we will be on the water by 11:00 or 11:15 depending on how many participate. The paddle to Pompion Hill Chapel and back with a break for lunch lasts about 4 hours, give or take. RSVP directly to me (Craig Bachman, cab3332003 at yahoo.com) by Friday evening at 6 PM at (843) 514-1796. Because it is tough to load boats, I will only load enough boats for those who indicate that they are coming, but people can bring guests as we have close to 100 seats. When people RSVP they should list their preference for either a single (recommended) or a tandem (discouraged) kayak.
My boss has deeply discounted the rate to $15/person, and people can pay in cash, or with a check made out to "Nature Adventure Outfitters" or with Visa/Mastercard. Each person must fill out a "Release of Liability" form at the boat landing before we launch. And everyone has to wear a PFD (lifevest) which we can provide. Other things that make the trip more comfortable are wearing shoes that could possibly get wet even though they probably won't get wet, carrying sunglasses and maybe a hat, carrying water and some snack food (I will have a complete lunch for myself). Cameras and binoculars are useful, and neither bug spray nor sunblock are needed this time of year unless someone is really sensitive.
The landing is about 45 minutes from downtown Charleston, so I recommend that some people carpool, even if it's only part of the way.
>From downtown/Mt Pleasant:
Take Highway 17 north to intersection with Highway 41. Turn left onto Highway 41 and follow it for almost 17 miles. Turn left onto Cainhoy Road (if you get to the blinking light at the intersection of 41/402/Steed Creek Rd & the dilapidated gas station you just passed the turn!), cross the railroad tracks and turn right into the public boat landing.
>From West Ashley/North Charleston:
Take I-526 to the Clements Ferry Road-NORTH exit (exit 23-B). Follow Clements Ferry Road about 7 miles past Nelliefield Plantation and the Peninsula subdivisions to a new traffic light at Cainhoy Road. Turn left at the light onto Cainhoy Road and follow Cainhoy Road about 11-12 miles until you cross the significant bridge which is Quenby Creek. Turn left into the boat landing as soon as you cross the bridge. If you miss the turn onto Cainhoy Road, Clements Ferry Road will continue to Reflectance Drive on which you can turn left and then turn left again from Reflectance onto Hwy 41 and follow 41 North for almost 11 miles before you turn right onto Cainhoy Road to get to the landing.
If lost, call Craig at (843) 514-1796 for directions!!!! Hope to see lots of people on Saturday.
